2019 Highlander Comparison Review

Sells Like Hot Cakes.

Incredible Resale Value.

Top Safety Pick.

Family-Oriented Interior.

Solid Fuel Economy.

Great Horsepower.

In 2018, the Toyota Highlander was the second best-selling Mid-Size SUV. The only car that sold better in its class was the Ford Explorer. What is interesting to point out is that the Highlander was closer to first place than to third. According to J.D. Power, the Highlander was 17,060 units away from first place spot but 19,603 units ahead of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

In total, 244,511 Highlanders were sold last year alone. There is a reason so many people buy our Highlanders. Our vehicles are reliable to a fault, easy to drive, and designed to fit your needs. We believe that if you’re looking for a Mid-Size SUV, we have the perfect one for you in the 2019 Highlander.

One of the incredible aspects of the 2019 Toyota Highlander is that it retains its resale value better than any other car in its class. Kelley Blue Book gave the Highlander the number one spot among Mid-Size SUVs and Crossovers with three rows. They rated the Highlander above other popular vehicles such as the Honda Pilot and Subaru Ascent. At 36 months after purchase, KBB shows that the Highlander retains 60.2% of its value. After 60 months, it retains 46.3% of its value. For comparison, the Ascent retains 60% at 36 months and 45% after 60 months. The Pilot is at 59.2% at 36 months and 44.3% after 60 months.

Resale value is great for peace of mind when driving a new car. It never hurts to have a safety net. The resale value is not the only aspect of the Highlander that creates peace of mind, though. For their 2019 awards, the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) listed the 2019 Toyota Highlander as a Top Safety Pick. In fact, six different Toyota vehicles were listed in the IIHS awards.

On the IIHS website, the 2019 Toyota Highlander is listed as having a “Superior” rating on front crash prevention. The Highlander comes equipped with standard Pre-Collision and Pedestrian Detection systems. Additionally, the Highlander comes with Whiplash Injury Lessening seats. The seats are designed to reduce the effects of a crash on your neck. The IIHS rated the Highlander’s seat/head restraint geometry as “Good,” its highest ranking.

Nothing is more important than your safety, and we put our cars through rigorous testing to make sure they hold up to the highest standards of the industry. Maybe that’s why J.D. Power has Toyota ranked as its second most dependable brand, only behind Lexus (which is owned by Toyota).

This vehicle is designed to keep your family safe but also to keep them comfortable. The interior of the 2019 Toyota Highlander has been meticulously designed for comfort and regular use. Do not take my word for it. Here is what Business Insider had to say in one of its reviews: “The cabin is a pleasant and friendly place to be. It's quiet and comfortable, and the interior ergonomics are pretty much spot on.” In another review, they write, “Going through the Highlander, you notice the quality and the sturdiness of its construction. Its interior is built to be bumped into, scratched, and spilled on.”

Toyota understands that different families have different needs. Because of this, the 2019 Highlander comes with an option for so-called “captain” seats or a bench seat. With the captain seats, the Highlander fits 7 while the bench seats allow for up to 8 passengers.

With so many passengers, it can be difficult to see out the rear window. Luckily, the Highlander comes standardly equipped with a rear-view camera for ease of backing out. There is also an option for a “Bird’s Eye View” camera. This feature allows you to see a view from above your car that helps you see not just what is directly behind you but also what is on either side and in front.

What use is a vehicle if it cannot get you where you are going? Luckily, the 2019 Toyota Highlander has solid fuel economy and incredible horsepower for its class. On the base model of the standard Highlander, you get 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Other cars in the market such as the 2019 Chevy Traverse, 2019 Honda Pilot and 2019 Ford Explorer don’t do quite as well. The Chevy Traverse is listed at 18/27, the Honda Pilot at 19/27, and the Ford Explorer at 13/18 (all numbers from MotorTrend based off of base models).

The horsepower on the 2019 Toyota Highlander is listed at 295 hp. The 2019 Ford Explorer is at 290 hp, the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder has 284 hp, the 2019 Honda Pilot has 280 hp, the 2019 Subaru Ascent has 260 hp, and the 2019 Mazda CX-9 has 227 hp. The 2019 Toyota Highlander has the ability to get you where you need to go and the fuel economy to make it efficient.

In all, the 2019 Toyota Highlander is an amazing choice for you and your family. You probably already know a few people who have bought one. Now you know why. Highlanders hold their value, they are a Top Safety Pick, they are designed for the whole family, they have solid fuel economy, and they have incredible horsepower for their class.
