Although the 2018 Toyota Camry and Camry Hybrid were newly redesigned, the work did not stop. For the 2019 model of the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Apple CarPlay has been added. This feature allows you to match your standard 7-in. touchscreen to your iPhone, changing the interface from Toyota’s standard Entune to Apple’s familiar layout. Best of all, this feature is standard across all trims.

What hasn’t changed is the 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid’s incredible fuel economy. The SE and XLE models of the Camry Hybrid get an estimated 44 mpg in the city and 47 mpg on the highway. Even more impressive, the LE model runs at an incredible estimate of 51 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on the highway. Incredibly, the Camry Hybrid LE’s combined fuel economy of 52 mpg is the same as the 2019 Toyota Prius. The standard 2019 Toyota Camry gets an impressive for its class 29/41 fuel economy, but it is beaten by the standard Camry Hybrid by 22 mpg in the city and 12 mpg on the highway.

Not only does the 2019 Camry Hybrid run past its non-hybrid counterpart, but it also zooms past the competition. The 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid gets a second-best fuel economy of 48/48, but it is still a full four combined mpg below the 2019 Camry Hybrid. The 2019 Chevy Malibu Hybrid shows up with a 49/43 split, and the base 2019 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid sits at a 40/46 split. The 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid gets a split of 43/41, and the 2019 Kia Optima Hybrid rounds out the bottom at 39/45.

With the 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid’s impressive fuel economy, you will stay on the road and out of gas stations longer. The EPA estimates that the 2019 Camry Hybrid with its 13 gallon tank has a full range between fill-ups of 676 miles. For comparison, the 2019 Kia Optima Hybrid has a range of 652 miles. That is with a 15.9 gallon tank. The 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid gets 614 miles, and the 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid sits at 588 miles. Because of this, and the fuel economy numbers, the EPA estimates that you save $1000 over both the Kia Optima and the Ford Fusion over five years.

The 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid not only saves money in fuel economy but also in overall five-year value. MotorTrend and IntelliChoice have rated the 2019 Camry Hybrid as an Excellent value at an estimated five-year cost of $33,879. The 2019 Chevy Malibu Hybrid is also rated as Excellent, but its five-year cost is $36,797. The 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid earns an Above Average rating, and it has a five-year cost of $36,845. Bringing up the back, the 2019 Kia Optima has a Poor rating with a class-high five-year cost of $40,399. Not only are you saving $1000 in fuel expenses over the Kia Optima after five years, but you end up saving a total of $6,520 in MotorTrend/IntelliChoice’s estimate.‬

Because of these savings, the 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid has earned several awards. IntelliChoice has awarded the 2019 Camry Hybrid with the following awards: 2019 Best Overall Value of the Year Passenger Car, 2019 SmartChoice Fuel Costs Passenger Car, 2019 SmartChoice Maintenance Costs Passenger Car, and 2019 SmartChoice Operating Costs Passenger Car. US News and World Report has the 2019 Camry Hybrid rated as its number one car in the Midsize Cars category as well as in the Hybrid and Electric Cars category. Car and Driver has rated both the 2019 Camry and Camry Hybrid as an Editor’s Choice vehicle. In the category of safety, the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) has given the 2019 Camry Hybrid 5 stars in every category. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) has named the 2019 Camry as a Top Safety Pick+, its highest designation.

Speaking of safety, the 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense P. This suite of safety technologies includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beams, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. The NHTSA recommends that vehicles have four specific safety technologies. These are Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Crash Imminent Braking, and Dynamic Brake Assist. Not only does the 2019 Camry Hybrid have all of these, but they are all standard.

The 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid also has many of these technologies standard, but it does not offer Dynamic Brake Assist. The 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid has Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning standard, but it does not offer Crash Imminent Braking or Dynamic Brake Assist. Both the 2019 Kia Optima Hybrid and the 2019 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid have all four recommended technologies offered, but none are standard. You will have to pay extra to get them. Finally, the 2019 Chevy Malibu Hybrid only offers Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning. Neither are standard, so you will have to pay a premium for them.

Typically, with such great fuel economy and standard safety features, some might jump to the conclusion that the 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid must be a dull ride. Not so. Instead, the 2019 Camry Hybrid runs at 208 horsepower. That is actually five more than the standard Camry’s base engine. The 2019 Chevy Impala, a non-hybrid vehicle, gets a base horsepower of 197. The 2019 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid rolls out of the factory at 193 hp, and the 2019 Kia Optima Hybrid sits one horsepower lower at 192. While the 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid is close with its 188 hp, the 2019 Chevy Malibu Hybrid sits well below the rest of the pack at 122 hp.

With new Apple CarPlay and incredible fuel efficiency, the 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid comes in as an incredible vehicle. It saves you money over time, and it has been recognized by several outlets for not only its incredible value but also its remarkable safety features. The fact that those features come standard would be the cherry on top if it weren’t for the fact that the 2019 Camry Hybrid also gets better base horsepower than most any of its competitors.
